Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Matt Damon, and, er, Orlando Bloom [sniggers] … The roll call of celebrities pictured taking to the water on stand-up paddleboards is testament to this sport’s growing popularity among those looking for a fun way to stay in shape.

Try stand-up paddleboarding for yourself at one of our resorts – as well as being a great way to get out on the water, it’s easy to master quickly, and provides a great workout!

Nothing beats being out on the water when it comes to sheer exhilaration – and often for fitness too. Stand-up paddleboarding, or SUPing, is fun but also brilliant for a strong core workout – many cross-over athletes train with SUP. This is because, surprisingly, the paddling is done using the core rather than the arms, which is tiring and doesn’t generate much power.

For the best stability, it’s also important to resist the natural temptation to look down at the board. Instead, we advise you to keep your head up and your back straight, ensuring your body weight is over your toes.

SUP’s rise is also down to the fact that, unlike surfing or windsurfing, it’s very easy to learn – you’ll be totally at ease on your board in the water within just an hour.
